The Third Trimester Journey – Here’s what you do

Week-28 of your 40-week pregnancy has started and you’re starting to feel a little intimidated.

It’s the 6th month of your pregnancy, so by week 37, you know that you’ll start getting those twinges indicating that your baby is getting ready.

But until then, what should you do? Is there something you should expect?

Here are some of the details you should know. Followed by which, we’re providing some activities you should definitely take care of before your little one arrives!

What’s going to Happen in Your Third Trimester?

Events that may happen during your third trimester will include:

  • Braxton-Hicks contractions
  • Heartburn
  • Frequent urination
  • Tender breasts
  • Swollen fingers
  • Difficulty while sleeping
  • Movement by the baby

During this time, it’s important that you maintain a healthy lifestyle and follow the regime your doctor recommended so your body is prepared for birth. You will be required to:

  • Continue your prenatal vitamins
  • Work your Kegel muscles by doing pelvic exercises
  • Keep your teeth and gums healthy
  • Stay active unless you have swelling and pain (in which case you need to contact the doctor)
  • Drink lots of water
  • Maintain a healthy diet of vegetables, fruits, fibers and protein
  • Avoid any exercise that can cause strain or injury to the stomach
  • Long car trips or flights

What You Should Do During Your Third Trimester

Prepare to Breastfeed

If you’re planning on nursing your baby, learn all that you can about the best way to do so. Talk to other mothers or your doctor, read articles and take breastfeeding classes. Stock up on nursing balms, reusable nursing pads and baby covers  – everything you need to make nursing as comfortable as possible.

Assemble Your Baby Care Gear

Bring in your partner or a friend for help. Strollers, bassinets and bouncy chairs can be difficult to put together, so it’s better to have something alongside to help. Buy a lot of rechargeable batteries along with a battery charger so you don’t run out of them.

Prepare Your Hospital Bag

Do your research online, make a list of everything you need and buy it now instead of later. Pregnancy can be unpredictable so you never know when you might need your hospital bag. Store nursing bras, maternity hospital gowns and everything you need so you stay comfortable during your visit. Then double-check it.

Wash All Your Baby’s Clothes

Even if they were kept pristine in their plastic wraps, you never know when those blankets and cute outfits might have gotten something on them. Wash them for good measure and use a hypoallergenic detergent to remove any irritants.
